1859833993 Fighter Writer: The Eventful Life of Sergeant Joe Lee, Scotland's Forgotten War Poet Burrows, Bob Breedon Books 2004 This biography of Joseph Johnston Lee (1876-1949) looks at the life and work of this Dundonian poet. As he teenager he worked on steamers and travelled widely. He then worked as a journalist in London before moving back to Dundee to become editor of the "People`s Journal". He was with the Black Watch during the First World War and he sent home poems and sketches describing the horrors of the battlefield. "Ballads of Battle" and "Work-a-day Warriors" were published in 1916 and 1917 respectively. After the war he moved to London, working on newspapers. The book includes a number of his poems and sketches. 1161
